A free 2 CPD workshop

An article in the Lancet (05.11.2021) suggests that during this pandemic, depression and anxiety disorders have gone up by 25-30% as seen in both males and females across the lifespan. Bruxism has also increased during these trying times. If we look, we will find that between 1 and 2 out of 5 of our patients are showing signs (grinding, clenching, thrusting or fixing of the mandible) or symptoms (headaches, backaches, auras, tinnitus, lack of sleep). Bruxism was prevalent in older men with heavy set jaws, but now in petite women as young as 18 years old.

This free workshop looks at pandemic fatigue, the biology of stress and the psychophysiology of bruxism in the twenty first century. We consider Darwin and William James work on Facial Feedback Hypothesis from the late eighteen hundreds, recent development in brain physiology, and neuroplasticity, (brain growth and regression).
Is bruxism like stress, normal homeostasis, keeping our internal milieu constant in the face of a changing environment?
